Creative Music Workshop
The JazzEast Creative Music Workshop is a fifteen day intensive music workshop for student players who have reached a level of proficiency on their instrument and in their study of theory and who are ready to apply their harmonic, melodic and improvisational skills toward a more creative approach to their music. Run in conjunction with the Atlantic Jazz Festival, it takes advantage of the festival's infrastructure and the wealth of talent and expertise in Halifax for festival appearances.
The Workshop has three Core Faculty for it's duration with guest faculty and clinicians from the Festival line-up. Core Faculty include percussionist Jerry Granelli, saxophonist Don Palmer and bassist, pianist and theorist Skip Beckwith. Visiting Faculty for 1998 included saxophonists Jane Ira Bloom, Mike Murley and Kirk MacDonald, trombonist Julien Priester, pianist Jamie Saft and bassist Rufus Reid. The Workshop begins one week before the Festival and concludes on the last day with a live recorded performance of material developed during ensemble sessions.
